Default New to the Site

Hello!
I'm a Canadian who has arrived on this site in a roundabout way.

Many decades ago I read a book in which the writer travelled to many small and not well-known countries. The book was good-humoured and I remember Sark was the last feudal state in Europe, along with retaining some info about the Dame of Sark.

A while ago I was given a copy of "The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society? (A lovely book--read if you haven't.) In the funny way minds work, mine went from Guernsey to Sark. I couldn't remember the title of that book, but found it--"Report from Practically Nowhere", and eventually got a copy. The book is still great fun, though of course the material on Sark is 50 years out of date.

Now I know a little more, and wish I could go there--maybe someday.

-Margie

Hello Margie, welcome to the forum. You will definitely have to visit Sark soon. There is some video footage of Sark on the Visit Guernsey website and there are other clips of Sark on You Tube as well. A new 3 part series of programmes called 'Islands of Britain' will be on UK tv next month. (I have started another thread about this in the Discussions section.) Sark is being featured, whilst I know that you cannot see this, it is coming out on DVD as well, but not sure if the region code will work in your machine in Canada? Islands of Britain
I do hope you get to experience how wonderful Sark is for yourself.
